Welcome! I just opened up a web site. I figured that
I needed a place to share my work with the world. I decided to set up my
web site as a journal rather than a traditional web site. This way I can
share what I worked on from day to day and not get tangled up in designing
something that will be too complicated. Also, I think this style is cool.
Game: Mario's Fly Catcher
Ok, so what's up for today? First things first, I have
completed a small game that I think is a sort of make-fun-of Super Mario
game. I created it to practice some Allegro and succeeded quite well. Yep,
it was fun to code in C++ and Allegro but you're probably not too interested
in that. I am, though. Anyway, in the game you play as Mario and try to
avoid being bitten by some nasty flies. (It seems that Mario hasn't been
taking a bath.) Mario kills these fly by stomping on them. The goal is
not to rack up a high score or to beat the game but to see how far you
can get and that's pretty hard.
You might have noticed from this picture that Mario is surrounded by
many flys. The levels increase in difficulty by increasing the number of
flys present in the level. Eventually you won't be able to win but at least
you would have tried. And the best player is the one who keeps on trying.
Revenge of the Goombas is a hack of Super Mario World
that I'm working on. The plot involves the goomba community taking vengence
on Mario for stomping them as if they were trash. Naturally, anyone would
be angry if this happened to them. So what do they do? They set up whole
bunch of obstacles for Mario in order to make his life miserable. Everything
from football teams to Koopa armys - anything to make life hard on Mario.
I haven't gotten too far in terms of development
but I figure that when the game is done it will have about 40 to 60 levels
varying in length. I don't think I will put any secret levels in the game
but there will be tons of secret areas. The final boss will not be Koopa.
If it were then the game's title would have to be changed.
From the looks of the picture you can see that this
game will not be easy. I never intended to make it easy so it will advanced
players will be targeted. Besides being difficult the game will contain
a variety of puzzles that will have to be solved using your head.
